Lace is Back, but Old isn't

Aww... It's been a while. It's good to be back, folks! On my long hiatus from blogging, I have made quite a few life changes - job, apartment, boyfriend, cat, life goals... just to name a few. But we'll discuss this later. Right now, let's get to my most recent fashion purchase/dilemma/challenge, shall we? I came home from one of my favorite bargain designer stores (my new job doesn't have me exactly rolling in the dough) totally excited about my new ivory lace shift dress purchase. I felt it was Jackie O meets Audrey Hepburn. My boyfriend had a different opinion. He said, "Doesn't that look like that tablecloth you inherited from your grandma?" After I finished cursing the day he was born, I set out to prove him wrong; that a classic look can come back in a way that is fresh and modern, and not grandma-ish. For day time, I will wear it in a summery and slightly edgy way. I shall pair it with a tan branded belt and matching platform wedges. The earrings will make the statement and really pull it into 2013. The bracelets will balance the metal of the earrings and voula!

Serpentine Bangle Set by Forever 21 $9.80
Reese Woven Belt by Elise M $34
Lappas Wedges at Aldo $80

And for evening? I'll keep the bangles and swap the braided belt for a skinny black one, trade out the shoes for something more dressy, and add a perfectly fitted blazer if it's chilly out. I'll remove the earring and add a statement necklace that is anything but old looking.

Lasered Fan Necklace by Anthropolgie $218
Bead Chain Braided Belt by Forever 21 $4.80

And there we are. Take that, opinionated boyfriend!

Birthday Candles and Confetti

My birthday is in about a week and with another year comes a yearning for more glamor in my life. I've become comfortable, not in a confidence sense but in a lack of effort sense. I've always been a sucker for glitz and glam, but those sweat pants and slippers have been looking mighty good these days. With this year I want to get back into the girly side of me. I want to give myself a slight makeover - experiment with different makeup, dye my hair darker, things like that. And, of course, there's the clothes. Every girl should have a pair of sparkly shoes in her closet to brighten the days when nothing seems to fit and her hair just won't stay put. Take a look at these pumps and flats. They make me happy just looking at them. Maybe on my birthday I'll have to spring for a pair of glitter heels (cheaper ones than seen here, sadly).

Sea Glass Dreaming

The weather keeps getting colder and the more layers I put on, the more I wish it were July and I was strolling on the beach. Sitting in this coffee shop with the heat turned up too high, I can almost imagine the rays of sun on my back and the sand beneath my toes. But sadly, it is still winter (is it winter yet?). To try to stay in my summer fantasy a little longer, here are some sea glass inspirations. Maybe they will help you pretend with me.

Vote Winner: Let Them Be Cheap!!!

The poll has closed and the votes are in. To refresh your memory, the poll was about if you approve of expensive designers making less expensive lines to roll with the times. The debate is centered around if it takes away from the specialness and exclusivity of the brand or not. The winner for this vote was that it was great for designers to do this. I guess people aren't too worried about the expensive image after all. In second place, interestingly enough, came that it was totally wrong and took away from what the designer stood for - high quality clothes and a status that goes with it. So I have done some research and found that one of my favorite designers, Vera Wang, did just this. She has a line at Kohls called Simply Vera by Vera Wang.

I have to say I don't love all of it. It's definitely a line you have to sift through and it looks like it may be directed towards slightly older women than myself. Nonetheless, it's Vera!

Bruno Frisoni Shoes

The ultimate in feminine high fashion, Bruno Frisoni's shoes are every girl's dream. Known for his shoes and bags, Frisoni takes the basics of femininity literally with smooth, flowing lines, ruffles, and pretty colors. Here are a few of my faves, but this is really just a small sample of the type of work he does. Of course, his pieces are way out of my pricerange, but they are still enjoyable to gaze at.

Lacy Lady

Hey all! In the spirit of spring and romance, my current obsession is lace or lace-inspired patterns. Lace is sexy, yet very classic. Right now, I'm feeling like lace everything - lace headbands, lace curtains, everything! Anyway, here are a few pieces I found that go with my current mood. Let's not be afraid to be lacy ladies.

Oh Dear, Oh Deer.

What the heck? Have you ever seen a shoe styled in this way? I certainly haven't. Oh Deer's Sandy is moving beyond just out of the box. This is truly unique. I can't decide if I like it or if it worries me. What do you think? Do you think this styling is even feasible to walk in? I seem to be at a loss for words.
